About

Cooper Studios is a not for profit start up in the heart of Durham city. We provide a fully stocked and affordable art studio space.

Members of Cooper Studios are given their own dedicated space as well as given the oppurtunity to take part in our quaterly exhibtion or they can host their own exhibitions.

Our studio boasts a spacious and naturally light open plan communal space which natural induces an immediate community, atmosphere and hub for creativity.

We do not just cater for fine art but also for makers and designers. Anyone can use the sturdy carpenters bench in the studio and take full advantage of the hand tools and power tools to make anything they require and learn new skills.

As an organisation, we work with our members on many large scale projects in the realms of theatre, film and art experiences which can be found through out our website.

Cooper Studios is also an organisation set up to bring about oppurtunity to its local community. Taking on members of the local youth population and giving them roles of responsibility in our events, exhibtions and projects proves to impart experience and skills to help them get to where they want to be. See our community
page for our full commitment.

Cooper Studios was set up and opened its doors in 2014 and has been succesfully growing amongst the entire community of Durham.

Who we are

Christian Cooper Ellinas

Founder and Director of Cooper Studios

I set up Cooper Studios in 2013 and currently run the organisation from nine to five every day. I am also the artistic director for any projects or productions that we put on here. Over the course of running, I will be organising; the many exhibitions of our members work, the workshops, the classes, film, theatre projects and much more.

I also do my own work using oils, acryclics, charcoal and fine pencil, but have experience in fine detail sculpting and prosthetic making for special effects. I am also a carpenter/ set builder and have developed a skill in metal working including welding and forging. These are all skills I drew upon to physically build the studio. Carpentry is one of my talents which has enabled us to take on some of the more large scale projects, including the weeks of build work required on the space in which we have set up the studio.

After working in the design workshop with Punchdrunk over the summer of 2013 on 'The Drowned Man' I was inspired by their creativity and ability to immerse people into their beautiful worlds to bring this to Durham. Now after recently finishing work with Secret Cinema on 'Back to the Future' I am determined to bring a new dimension to art in Durham, and Immerse audiences of our exhibtions into Cooper Studios visions.

As the full time Director and Founder of Cooper Studios I am dedicated to taking the organisation forward.
